Beth El's chapter of Abraham Joshua Heschel Honor Society (AJHHS) is a select group of exemplary high school students from each grade. Students are selected based on their current strengths and passions—especially with Jewish life and learning.

To participate in AJHHS, students must complete and submit the following application form and agree to the standards of participation.

Applicant Information

Personal Reflections

Instead of submitting your activities list or resume, please highlight and describe in the boxes below three activities in which you are currently involved and of which you are most proud.

Short Answer Questions

Please provide brief answers to the following questions:

1. Why do you want to be part of AJHHS? What do you hope to gain from the experience?

2. Members of AJHHS benefit from unique learning sessions, volunteer opportunities, and special access to events within our community. How do you see yourself giving back to the community in the coming years?

Standards

By submitting this form, the applicant agrees and commits to the following:

1. The Study of Torah – Society members must take part in at least two hours of supervised Jewish study per week.  Once per month, study over dinner will take place with Rabbi Olitzky.  We are hopeful that there will be study shabbaton for this group as well.

2. Prayer (Avodah) – Society members must participate in congregational prayer at least four times a month – three of which should be on Shabbat. Working in the TaRBuT program can count for two of the four required services.

3. Acts of Loving Kindness (G’milut Hasadim) – At least once a month, society members must engage in a community service project such as visiting the sick, tutoring, assisting in Hebrew Schools, etc., many of which can and will be facilitated by our youth department.

Please keep in mind that being accepted into AJHHS is a great honor, and for the integrity of the group, please only apply if you are able, willing, and eager to uphold the standards of participation.  Participation is completely free.
